Seahawks Training Camp Update

With all of the roster turnover the Seahawks have gone through this offseason, they still are relying one player connected with the winning ways the team experienced during the Mike Holmgren years to help lead them back to respectability.

Veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck continues to look impressive in the first days of training camp. The team has been giving Hasselbeck, who turns 35 in September, regular days off to keep his arm fresh.

The move also allows newcomer Charlie Whitehurst to get some much-needed work with the first unit. Received in a trade with the San Diego Chargers and given a two-year, $8 million deal to compete for the starting job with Hasselbeck, Whitehurst has been inconsistent at times for the Seahawks.

That’s to be expected for a former third-string quarterback stepping into a new system. However, Hasselbeck has picked up intricacies of new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates’ system quickly, and has looked liked the polished quarterback during Seattle’s glory days so far in camp.

“He really came out in command of what’s going on and made the whole thing work well today,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said about Hasselbeck’s first day of training camp.

Hasselbeck said so far the change Carroll has brought with him has been good for this team that only has won nine games in two seasons.

“Everything feels different this year,” he said. “Pete came in and just really wanted to change the culture, and it’s not that our culture was bad or anything like that. It’s just that this culture he’s trying to establish here is so much different.

“Take the crowd and the fans as an example. You never come out and not play in front of a crowd, so he’s trying to make things as game-like as possible. Whenever you’re out there stretching there’s music, he’s trying to make it like a game.”

Also helping the Seahawks get going this training camp is getting all of the rookie draft picks in camp.

  2. Who do you think will be the Seahawks starting QB come the start of the regular season? Will they have any fantasy football value?

    • I Think Matt Hasselbeck will have some Fantasy Value. If Matt Hasselbeck get injured which i not saying he will but I think J.P Losman will be the number two quarterback i know he listed as number 3 but he emerge as savior for the seahawks.

  3. I see a problem with the kicking part of the game. Seahawks will make the same mistakes that all the other teams make in stategy when it comes to that part of football. They always do because the coaching mentality never has addressed it properly! The Seahawks Pete Caroll and the philosophy towards winning is the best way to do it. however, his staff is not on the same page. To prove my point I’ll wait until after a few games are past then I’ll explain and point out what I’m saying.

    • when you wait after a couple of games please reply and let me know your point

      • To tell you the truth I saw the practice video on the You Tube site. I saw my point already being proved by the special teams punting the ball to the receiver and it being returned! Wrong Wrong. Anyway I’ll still wait until I see a few regular full games and watch both NFL teams make the same mistakes all thru the game. You tell me what is wrong with the strategy and why, if you can!! I know that Pete Carroll is one heck of a coach and he will bring to Seattle fans the best possible team. We love and respect him for all he did in LA !!

  4. Just like to say something for Pete Carroll on the Reggie situation. Can’t blame him or anyone else for what happened. The problem is with the NCAA themselves and the University. When are they going to learn to pay a base salary to the athletes that they sponge off of all season long. This has been long overdue. Athletes just don’t have the time to hold a paying job outside of football. Damn, there is no integrity without financial sustenance! The schools need to let it go. Shame on the schools and NCAA!! They shouldn’t get paid either!!!!!!!!!
